Università e città insieme per un futuro sostenibile: a Pavia il Board WP6 dell’Alleanza EC2U rafforza legami e progetti condivisi
(English below) Università e città insieme per costruire un futuro sostenibile. È questo lo spirito che ha animato il Board in presenza del Work Package 6 dell’Alleanza EC2U (European Campus of City-Universities), incentrato sull’Obiettivo 11 dell’Agenda 2030, “Città e comunità sostenibili”.
Organizzato all’Università di Pavia dal prof. Marco Morandotti e dalla ricercatrice Elisabetta Doria (DICAr – Università di Pavia) con il contributo della EC2U Unit locale, l’incontro del 29 e 30 settembre ha rappresentato un momento di confronto e co-progettazione tra le università partner dell’Alleanza e le istituzioni dei rispettivi territori. L’obiettivo? Rafforzare il dialogo tra città e università e promuovere nuove sinergie nel segno della sostenibilità e della cooperazione europea.
La prima giornata ha visto la partecipazione di Alessandra Fuccillo (Assessora ai Rapporti con le Università del Comune di Pavia) e Maria Spitti (Ufficio Europa e Unità Strategica per l’Innovazione Urbana, Progetti e Reti Internazionali di Città del Comune di Pavia), che hanno illustrato la genesi e l’evoluzione del progetto CHARME Interreg, offrendo spunti di dialogo con le università EC2U sul futuro delle relazioni città–università e sulle opportunità di cooperazione a livello municipale ed europeo.
L’evento è stato anche l’occasione per approfondire le attività dell’EC2U Virtual Institute for Smart and Sustainable Cities (VISCC) e presentare ricerche, progetti e tesi di laurea sui temi del riuso architettonico, della sostenibilità urbana e dell’inclusione delle comunità locali. Tra queste, le tesi di Maya Moussallieh e Julia Seppa, neolaureate del EC2U Joint Master ”Sustainable Cities and Communities”, per il quale UniPv è in corso di accreditamento. Le studentesse hanno svolto a Pavia l'ultimo semestre per la preparazione della tesi, sui temi di sostenibilità, riuso e inclusione della comunità locale per la valorizzazione culturale.
Spazio anche alla presentazione del volume Building Sustainable Reuse, realizzato da Morandotti e Doria. L’opera raccoglie contributi teorici e casi studio dedicati al tema della sostenibilità in architettura e costruzione, con un focus sui progetti di riuso sostenibile, sviluppati nelle tre edizioni dell'EC2U B.SuRe summer school.
Nel pomeriggio conclusivo, i partecipanti del Board WP6 hanno lavorato a nuove proposte di ricerca e collaborazione, confermando l’impegno comune dell’Alleanza EC2U nel promuovere un’Europa universitaria integrata, sostenibile e connessa alle proprie città.

Universities and Cities Together for a Sustainable Future: the EC2U WP6 Board Meeting in Pavia strengthens projects and connections across communities
Universities and cities together to build a sustainable future. This was the spirit that animated the in-person Work Package 6 Board Meeting of the EC2U Alliance (European Campus of City-Universities), focused on UN Sustainable Development Goal 11, “Sustainable Cities and Communities.”
Organized at the University of Pavia by Prof. Marco Morandotti and researcher Elisabetta Doria (DICaR – University of Pavia), with the support of the local EC2U Unit, the meeting held on 29 and 30 September offered a valuable opportunity for dialogue and co-design among the Alliance’s partner universities and the institutions of their respective territories. The goal? To strengthen collaboration between cities and universities and foster new synergies in the name of sustainability and European cooperation.
The first day featured contributions from Alessandra Fuccillo (Councillor for University Affairs, Municipality of Pavia) and Maria Spitti (Ufficio Europa and municipal representative of Strategic Unit for Urban Innovation, Projects and International City Networks).
They presented the origins and evolution of the CHARME Interreg Project, opening a discussion with EC2U representatives on the future of city–universities and on opportunities for municipal and European cooperation.
The event also provided a platform to showcase the activities of the EC2U Virtual Institute for Smart and Sustainable Cities (VISCC), including the presentation of research projects and academic works on architectural reuse, urban sustainability, and community inclusion.
Among them were the dissertations of Maya Moussallieh and Julia Seppa, recent graduates of the EC2U Joint Master “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, for which UNIPV is currently completing accreditation. The students spent their final semester in Pavia working on theses focused on sustainability, reuse, and the engagement of local communities in cultural enhancement.
The event also featured the presentation of the volume Building Sustainable Reuse, written by Marco Morandotti and Elisabetta Doria, which gathers theoretical contributions and case studies on sustainability in architecture and construction, with a focus on sustainable reuse projects developed during the three editions of the EC2U B.SuRe Summer Schools.
During the final session, members of the WP6 Board worked on new research and collaboration proposals, reaffirming the shared commitment of the EC2U Alliance to promoting a united, sustainable, and city-connected European university community.
