L’Università di Pavia al Kick-Off Meeting del progetto PNRR Transnational Education finanziato dal Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca - UNITAFRICA
(English below) L'Università di Pavia è coinvolta in 4 progetti TNE finanziati nell'ambito del Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza (PNRR), tra cui Empowering the Academic Cooperation between Italy and Africa for fostering the quality and effectiveness of the higher education systems in a mutual learning environment - UNITAFRICA. L'obiettivo generale delle Iniziative Educative Transnazionali (TNE) è quello di promuovere la cooperazione con istituzioni universitarie straniere per favorire l'internazionalizzazione delle università italiane e promuovere il modello italiano di istruzione superiore come best practice a livello internazionale.
Il 15 e 16 maggio 2025 si è tenuto ad Addis Abeba, presso l'Istituto Italiano di Cultura, il primo incontro in presenza del progetto UNITAFRICA, con il supporto dell'Ambasciata d'Italia in Etiopia. Questo progetto di cooperazione accademica, coordinato dall'Università di Brescia, coinvolge 21 università italiane e 78 università africane con l’obiettivo di consolidare le esperienze di cooperazione accademica nella didattica e di individuare le migliori pratiche attraverso metodi didattici innovativi. A ciò si aggiunge la creazione di una piattaforma didattica multidisciplinare accessibile a studenti e docenti delle università partecipanti.
A rappresentare l’Università di Pavia la Prof.ssa Maria Sassi, docente presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Economiche e Aziendali e Vice-presidente CICOPS e il Dott. Marco Oliva, responsabile dei progetti Erasmus+ KA171 e di educazione transnazionale presso la U.O.C. Mobilità Internazionale.
Durante l'incontro, la Prof.ss Sassi e il Dr. Oliva hanno preso parte a tavole rotonde, incontri bilaterali e sessioni di lavoro volte a definire linee guida condivise, priorità tematiche e strumenti operativi per l'implementazione dei progetti.
Il progetto, sostenuto dalla ventennale esperienza del Coordinamento Universitario per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (CUCS), mira a garantire un accesso equo e sostenibile all'istruzione secondaria di alto livello senza discriminazioni di genere, in linea con gli standard internazionali dell'Agenda 2030 e dell'Agenda 2063. Tra le attività già avviate vi sono la riunione di apertura, la creazione dell'Alleanza UNITAFRICA e i webinar tematici.
L’Università di Pavia organizzerà mobilità di docenti per la didattica in Etiopia, Kenya, Tanzania e saranno organizzati 2 Advanced Skills Courses in ambito di sicurezza alimentare e progettazione internazionale.
La partecipazione dell’Università di Pavia riveste una valenza strategica, consolidando il ruolo centrale che l’Ateneo pavese ha storicamente assunto nella promozione della cooperazione universitaria internazionale, in particolare nel continente africano. Attraverso la sua rete di collaborazioni e progetti, Pavia si conferma un hub accademico di riferimento per lo sviluppo sostenibile, la formazione di qualità e l’internazionalizzazione della didattica e della ricerca. L’Università di Pavia rinnova così il suo impegno a favore di una cooperazione inclusiva e multilaterale, consapevole che l’investimento nell’istruzione superiore è una leva fondamentale per lo sviluppo umano e socio economico dell’Africa.

The University of Pavia at the Kick-Off Meeting of the UNITAFRICA project
The University of Pavia is involved in 4 TNE projects funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), including Empowering the Academic Cooperation between Italy and Africa for fostering the quality and effectiveness of the higher education systems in a mutual learning environment - UNITAFRICA. The general objective of Transnational Educational Initiatives (TNE) is to promote cooperation with foreign university institutions in order to encourage the internationalisation of Italian universities and promote the Italian higher education model as a best practice at an international level.
On the 15th and 16th of May 2025, the first in-person meeting of the UNITAFRICA project was held in Addis Ababa, at the Italian Cultural Institute, with the support of the Italian Embassy in Ethiopia. This academic cooperation project, coordinated by the University of Brescia, involves 21 Italian universities and 78 African universities within the PNRR-TNE projects. The objective of UNITAFRICA is to consolidate academic cooperation experiences in teaching and identify best practices through innovative teaching methods. A multidisciplinary educational platform accessible to students and lecturers from the participating universities is also being created.
The meeting in Addis Ababa presents the progress of the activities and strengthens the partnership with the African universities involved. The event is held in a hybrid mode to allow remote participation.
The University of Pavia was represented by Prof. Maria Sassi, lecturer at the Department of Economics and Business Sciences and CICOPS vice-president, and Mr. Marco Oliva, officer of Erasmus+ KA171 and transnational education projects at the International Mobility Unit.
During the meeting, Prof. Sassi and Mr. Oliva took part in round tables, bilateral meetings and working sessions aimed at defining shared guidelines, thematic priorities and operational tools for project implementation.
The project, supported by the twenty years of experience of the University Coordination for Development Cooperation - CUCS, aims to ensure equitable and sustainable access to high-level secondary education without gender discrimination, in line with international standards of Agenda 2030 and Agenda 2063. Among the activities already initiated are the opening meeting, the establishment of the UNITAFRICA Alliance, and thematic webinars.
The University of Pavia will organize professors’ mobilities for teaching in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and 2 Advanced Skills Courses will be organized in food security and international planning.
The participation of the University of Pavia is strategically important. It consolidates the central role that the University of Pavia has historically assumed in promoting international university cooperation, particularly on the African continent. Through its network of collaborations and projects, Pavia confirms itself as an academic hub of reference for sustainable development, quality education and internationalization of research.
The University of Pavia thus renews its commitment to inclusive and multilateral cooperation, aware that investment in higher education is a key lever for human and socioeconomic development in Africa.
