Italia e Regno Unito a confronto sul futuro della collaborazione universitaria: anche Pavia all’Italy–UK University Partnership Day
(English below) Il Regno Unito rientra in Erasmus+ e dal 2027 e si apre una nuova fase per la collaborazione tra università italiane e britanniche. Mobilità di studenti, dottorandi, docenti e personale accademico, programmi intensivi, progettazione didattica congiunta e partnership europee torneranno così a poter essere sviluppati all’interno di un quadro Erasmus+ comune. In questo scenario, lunedì 7 settembre si è svolto a Londra l’Italy–UK University Partnership Day, promosso dall’Ambasciata d’Italia a Londra in collaborazione con l’Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+ INDIRE e Uni-Italia.
L’incontro ha riunito circa trenta università italiane e britanniche, insieme ai principali attori istituzionali impegnati nella cooperazione accademica e nella preparazione del nuovo Erasmus+. Al centro della giornata, due tavole rotonde dedicate agli ultimi sviluppi del programma e a supportare università e istituzioni artistiche italiane. In questo contesto sono intervenuti Sara Pagliai per l’Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+ INDIRE, Eduardo Ramos per il British Council e Sam Herman-Wilson per il Department for Education britannico.
Tra gli atenei presenti anche l’Università di Pavia, con la Prof.ssa Carola Ricci (Delegata del Rettore per la Cooperazione Internazionale e l’Africa) e Michela Cobelli (Responsabile della UOC Mobilità Internazionale). La delegazione ha incontrato colleghi e referenti della University of Bath, University of Oxford, Imperial College London e University College London, per esplorare nuove possibilità di collaborazione e valutare l’ampliamento di quelle già esistenti nel nuovo quadro Erasmus+.
Verso la Call Erasmus+ 2027
Al centro dei lavori, la preparazione della Call Erasmus+ 2027 - prevista entro la fine di quest'anno - e sulla costruzione delle partnership essenziali per attuarla. Oltre a riattivare la mobilità di studenti e personale, gli atenei britannici stanno già lavorando per consolidare le relazioni esistenti e individuare nuovi partner europei per sviluppare forme più ampie di collaborazione accademica. La dimensione del rilancio è significativa: per la partecipazione a Erasmus+ nel 2027, il Regno Unito contribuirà al programma con circa 570 milioni di sterline e il Governo britannico prevede che oltre 100.000 persone possano beneficiarne già nel primo anno.
Il ritorno a Erasmus+ segna un’evoluzione nella strategia britannica d’internazionalizzazione: dopo la Brexit, il Regno Unito aveva puntato sulla "Global Britain", privilegiando una proiezione globale della mobilità e delle relazioni accademiche, con l’Europa come una delle diverse aree di cooperazione. Dal 2027, l’Europa torna ad assumere un ruolo strutturato nella politica di internazionalizzazione britannica, affiancando alla dimensione globale un rinnovato investimento nelle relazioni e nelle partnership con le università europee. Il ritorno al programma prevede inoltre un adeguamento delle Immigration Rules britanniche, in vigore dall’8 ottobre 2026, per rendere le diverse tipologie di mobilità Erasmus+ compatibili con il sistema britannico di ingresso e soggiorno post-Brexit, includendo attività di studio, formazione, traineeship e job shadowing.
Nuove opportunità per UniPv
L’Università di Pavia ha all’attivo accordi di mobilità per studio con 13 università del Regno Unito. Ingegneria, medicina, scienze biomediche, chimica, economia, management, diritto, lingue e scienze motorie sono tra i principali ambiti di collaborazione, cui si aggiungono accordi aperti a più aree disciplinari. Tra i partner figurano Imperial College London, King’s College London, Durham University, University of Glasgow, University of Birmingham, Cardiff University, Queen’s University Belfast e St John’s College (University of Cambridge) e Lancaster University, con cui è attivo un programma di dual degree nell’area Economics and Business.
Il rientro del Regno Unito in Erasmus+ rafforzerà ulteriormente questa rete, affiancando nuove opportunità di mobilità e formazione alle collaborazioni già sviluppate attraverso Horizon Europe e l’ European Research Council. Questa integrazione potrà favorire la nascita di gruppi di ricerca comuni, la circolazione di giovani ricercatori e nuove progettualità europee.
Verso EAIE 2026
L’Italy–UK University Partnership Day ha anticipato di un giorno la conferenza EAIE (European Association for International Education, principale appuntamento europeo dedicato all’internazionalizzazione dell’istruzione superiore, in programma a Glasgow dall’8 all’11 settembre. Per UniPv, il 2027 sarà l’anno per consolidare rafforzare e ampliare la rete di partner - britannici e non - con nuove opportunità di mobilità per studenti e personale e collaborazioni integrate tra didattica, formazione e ricerca.

Italy and the UK look to the future of university cooperation: Pavia takes part in the Italy–UK University Partnership Day
The United Kingdom will rejoin the Erasmus+ programme from 2027, opening a new phase of cooperation between Italian and British universities. Student, PhD, academic and staff mobility, intensive programmes, joint curriculum development and European partnerships will once again be able to develop within a shared Erasmus+ framework. Against this backdrop, the Italy–UK University Partnership Day was held in London on Monday, 7 September, promoted by the Embassy of Italy in London in collaboration with the Erasmus+ National Agency INDIRE and Uni-Italia.
The event brought together around thirty Italian and British universities, along with the main institutional stakeholders involved in academic cooperation and preparations for the new Erasmus+ programme. The day featured two round tables focusing on the latest developments in the programme and on supporting Italian universities and arts institutions. Speakers included Sara Pagliai from the Erasmus+ National Agency INDIRE, Eduardo Ramos from the British Council, and Sam Herman-Wilson from the British Department for Education.
Also taking part was the University of Pavia, represented by Prof. Carola Ricci (Rector’s Delegate for International Cooperation and Africa) and Michela Cobelli (Head of the International Mobility Unit). The delegation met with colleagues and representatives from the University of Bath, University of Oxford, Imperial College London e University College London, to explore new opportunities for cooperation and assess the expansion of existing partnerships within the new Erasmus+ framework.
Towards the Erasmus+ 2027 Call
A key focus of the event was preparation for the Erasmus+ 2027 Call, expected by the end of this year, and the development of the partnerships needed to implement it. In addition to reactivating student and staff mobility, British universities are already working to consolidate existing relationships and identify new European partners in order to develop broader forms of academic cooperation. The scale of the relaunch is significant: for participation in Erasmus+ in 2027, the United Kingdom will contribute around £570 million to the programme, while the British Government expects more than 100.000 people to benefit in the first year.
The return to Erasmus+ marks an evolution in the UK’s internationalisation strategy. Following Brexit, the country embraced the “Global Britain” approach, prioritising a global outlook for mobility and academic relations, with Europe as one of several areas of international cooperation. From 2027, Europe will once again play a structured role in the UK’s internationalisation policy, complementing its global outlook with renewed investment in relations and partnerships with European universities. The return to the programme will also involve adjustments to the UK Immigration Rules, effective from 8 October 2026, to make the different types of Erasmus+ mobility compatible with the UK’s post-Brexit entry and residence system, including study, training, traineeships and job shadowing.
New Opportunities for UniPv
The University of Pavia currently has study mobility agreements with 13 universities in the United Kingdom. Engineering, medicine, biomedical sciences, chemistry, economics, management, law, languages and sports sciences are among the main areas of cooperation, alongside agreements open to multiple disciplines. Partners include Imperial College London, King’s College London, Durham University, University of Glasgow, University of Birmingham, Cardiff University, Queen’s University Belfast, St John’s College (University of Cambridge) and Lancaster University, with which a dual degree programme is active in Economics and Business.
The UK’s return to Erasmus+ will further strengthen this network, adding new opportunities for mobility and training to the existing collaborations developed through Horizon Europe and the European Research Council. This integration could foster the creation of joint research groups, support the mobility of young researchers and open the way to new European projects.
Towards EAIE 2026
The Italy–UK University Partnership Day took place one day before the EAIE (European Association for International Education) conference, the leading European event dedicated to the internationalisation of higher education, taking place in Glasgow from 8 to 11 September. For UNIPV, 2027 will be an opportunity to strengthen and expand its network of partners - both British and international - creating new mobility opportunities for students and staff and fostering closer links between teaching, training and research.
