L'Università di Pavia nel progetto europeo EC2U ELEVATE: quasi 2 milioni di euro per rafforzare innovazione e imprenditorialità nell'istruzione superiore
L'Università di Pavia partecipa a EC2U ELEVATE (Entrepreneurship Learning, Education & Value-Creation Across Technologies and Ecosystems), tra i progetti selezionati per il finanziamento nell'ambito della EIT Higher Education Initiative, promossa dall'European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
EC2U ELEVATE punta ad avvicinare le università all'ecosistema europeo dell'innovazione, promuovendo nuove forme di collaborazione tra studenti, ricercatori, personale accademico, imprese, città e organizzazioni della società civile. L'obiettivo è costruire una cultura dell'innovazione condivisa tra gli atenei partner, favorire lo sviluppo di soluzioni alle principali sfide della società e rafforzare il trasferimento delle conoscenze verso il sistema economico e il territorio.
Con un finanziamento complessivo di 1.999.903 euro, il progetto - coordinato dall'Università di Coimbra - prenderà il via nel mese di settembre 2026 e si concluderà ad agosto 2028 all'interno dell'Alleanza EC2U – European Campus of City-Universities, che riunisce l'Università di Pavia e altre otto università europee: l'Università di Coimbra (Portogallo), la Friedrich Schiller University di Jena (Germania), l'Università Alexandru Ioan Cuza di Iași (Romania), l'Università di Salamanca (Spagna), la Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria), l'Università di Umeå (Svezia), l'Università di Poitiers (Francia) e l'Università di Turku (Finlandia). Il partenariato coinvolge inoltre il Pedro Nunes Institute, incubatore d'impresa con sede a Coimbra, e Oxentia, società britannica specializzata in innovazione e trasferimento tecnologico.
Costruire una cultura dell'innovazione
«Con questo nuovo progetto l’alleanza EC2U evolve nella direzione della ricerca e terza missione», afferma Giancarlo Sangalli, Prorettore alla Ricerca dell'Università di Pavia. «EC2U ELEVATE contribuirà a rafforzare la capacità delle università dell'Alleanza, compreso il nostro Ateneo, di sviluppare competenze imprenditoriali all'interno delle rispettive comunità accademiche, sostenere la valorizzazione della conoscenza scientifica, promuovere la collaborazione interdisciplinare e internazionale e avvicinare ulteriormente il mondo universitario alle imprese e alla società. Il progetto interviene a livello di governance istituzionale, dei percorsi formativi e dei processi di valorizzazione della ricerca».
Nel corso dei prossimi due anni, EC2U ELEVATE svilupperà programmi di formazione dedicati all'imprenditorialità e all'innovazione, iniziative di co-creazione e attività di rafforzamento delle competenze rivolte a studenti, ricercatori e personale accademico. Saranno inoltre attivati strumenti di supporto per lo sviluppo di progetti innovativi e la nascita di nuove startup.
Il progetto mira anche a consolidare i legami tra le università europee e gli ecosistemi regionali dell'innovazione, aumentando così l'impatto della ricerca prodotta dagli atenei. Sostenuto da EIT Culture & Creativity, EC2U ELEVATE collega il modello delle city-universities dell'Alleanza EC2U al più ampio ecosistema EIT, che comprende anche EIT Urban Mobility ed EIT Health.
La EIT Higher Education Initiative, promossa dall'European Institute of Innovation and Technology, sostiene gli istituti di istruzione superiore nello sviluppo di ecosistemi dell'innovazione sempre più solidi, favorendo la cooperazione tra università, imprese, centri di ricerca e pubbliche amministrazioni.
Negli ultimi anni l'Alleanza EC2U (European Campus of City-Universities) ha intensificato il coinvolgimento delle comunità accademiche degli atenei partner e dei cittadini delle città che li ospitano attraverso un'ampia gamma di iniziative. In questo contesto, EC2U ELEVATE si propone di rafforzare la terza e la quarta missione delle università dell'Alleanza, potenziandone la capacità di trasferimento della conoscenza, innovazione, imprenditorialità e servizio alla società.

University of Pavia joins €2 million project EC2U ELEVATE to strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship in higher education
The University of Pavia is part of EC2U ELEVATE (Entrepreneurship Learning, Education & Value-Creation Across Technologies and Ecosystems), one of the projects selected for funding by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), as part of the EIT Higher Education Initiative.
EC2U ELEVATE aims to bring universities closer to the European innovation ecosystem by fostering new forms of collaboration between students, researchers, academic staff, businesses, cities and civil society organisations. This project seeks to build a culture of innovation across the participating institutions, encourage the development of solutions to societal challenges, and increase knowledge transfer to the economy and society.
With €1,999,903 in funding, the project led by the University of Coimbra will run between September 2026 and August 2028 as part of the EC2U – European Campus of City-Universities alliance, which brings together University of Pavia and eight other European universities: the University of Coimbra (Portugal), Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany), Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (Romania), the University of Salamanca (Spain), Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria), Umeå University (Sweden), the University of Poitiers (France), and the University of Turku (Finland). EC2U ELEVATE also brings on board the top-notch incubator Pedro Nunes Institute based in Coimbra and OXENTIA, a UK-based innovation and technology consultancy.
BUILD A CULTURE OF INNOVATION
"With this new project, the EC2U Alliance is evolving beyond its traditional focus on internationalisation to embrace research and the third mission," says Giancarlo Sangalli, Vice Rector for Research at the University of Pavia. "EC2U ELEVATE will strengthen the capacity of the Alliance's universities, including our own, to equip their academic communities with entrepreneurial skills, support the valorisation of scientific knowledge, foster interdisciplinary and international collaboration, and bring higher education institutions even closer to businesses and society. The project operates at the level of institutional governance, curricula, and research valorisation processes".
Over the next two years, the project will develop training programmes in entrepreneurship and innovation, co-creation initiatives and capacity-building activities for students, researchers and academics, as well as support mechanisms for the development of innovative projects and new startups.
The project also aims to reinforce ties between European universities and regional innovation ecosystems, thereby increasing the impact of research conducted at higher education institutions. Supported by EIT Culture & Creativity, it connects EC2U's city-universities model with the wider EIT ecosystem, including EIT Urban Mobility and EIT Health.
The EIT Higher Education Initiative, run by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, supports higher education institutions in building stronger innovation ecosystems by fostering cooperation between universities, businesses, research centres and public authorities.
The European Campus of City Universities (EC2U) Alliance has been stepping up engagement with the academic communities of its partner universities and the residents of their host cities through a broad range of activities. In this context, the EC2U ELEVATE project has as main ambition to boost the third and fourth missions of the partner universities of the EC2U, strengthening their capacities for knowledge transfer, innovation, entrepreneurship, and service to society.
