Partecipa alla EC2U Autumn School “Geographic Data Science for Sustainability” all’Università di Jena
(English below) Dal 7 al 10 ottobre 2025 alla Friedrich Schiller University di Jena (Germania) si terrà l’EC2U Autumn School “Geographic Data Science for Sustainability”. Organizzata nell’ambito dell'Alleanza europea EC2U - European Campus of City-Universities - di cui l'Università di Pavia è partner - l’iniziativa rientra nel Virtual Institute for Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Il corso è aperto a studenti di geographic information science, geografia, scienze della Terra e ambientali, ingegneria e discipline affini, dall’ultimo anno di Laurea Triennale fino a Master e Dottorato.
Il programma
La EC2U Autumn school fornirà una panoramica delle più avanzate tecniche di machine learning applicate all'analisi e modellizzazione geospaziale e ambientale per affrontare le sfide della sostenibilità.
Il corso spazierà dall’integrazione della conoscenza dei processi nei modelli geospaziali all'interpretazione dei modelli black-box, fino alla gestione dell’autocorrelazione spaziale, includendo esercitazioni pratiche con dati reali.
Chi può partecipare
L’Autumn School è supportata da borse di mobilità EC2U ed è rivolta ad un massimo di 30 studenti, selezionati in base ai seguenti criteri:
- Essere iscritta/o a un corso di laurea triennale, magistrale o di dottorato dell’Università di Pavia.
- Livello d’inglese minimo B2.
- Conoscenza base dei metodi statistici (ad es. regressione lineare multipla), dei sistemi GIS o dei dati geospaziali. Competenze base di programmazione (ad es. in R o Python) sono un plus.
Per partecipare è necessario candidarsi entro il 15 maggio 2025 tramite il link di registrazione, allegando CV e lettera di motivazione.

Join the EC2U Autumn School “Geographic Data Science for Sustainability” at the University of Jena!
From October 7 to 10, 2025, the EC2U Autumn School “Geographic Data Science for Sustainability” will take place at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany. Organized within the framework of the EC2U - European Campus of City-Universities alliance, of which the University of Pavia is a partner, this initiative is part of the Virtual Institute for Sustainable Cities and Communities.
The course is open to students in geographic information science, geography, Earth and environmental sciences, engineering, and related disciplines, from the final year of a Bachelor's degree to Master's and PhD students.
Programme
The EC2U Autumn School will provide an overview of the most advanced machine learning techniques applied to geospatial and environmental analysis and modeling, to address sustainability challenges. Topics will range from integrating process knowledge into geospatial models to interpreting black-box models and managing spatial autocorrelation, including practical exercises based on real geospatial data.
How to apply
The Autumn School is supported by EC2U mobility grants and is open to a maximum of 30 students, selected on the following criteria:
- Being enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree program at the University of Pavia.
- English level: B2 minimum.
- Basic knowledge of statistical methods (e.g., multiple linear regression), GIS systems, or geospatial data. Basic programming skills (e.g., in R or Python) are an asset.
