Il Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile e Architettura dà il benvenuto al prof. Gireesh Kumar della Banaras Hindu University
(English below) Il Dr. Gireesh Kumar T. K. della Banaras Hindu University, India, è entrato a far parte come Lead Researcher e Visiting Professor del Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile e Architettura dell’Università di Pavia, nel progetto di ricerca coordinato dalla Prof.ssa Olimpia Niglio, docente di Restauro Architettonico, Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile e Architettura. Ha ottenuto la borsa di studio Global Experience Faculty Program (GEFP) finanziata dalla Banaras Hindu University per portare avanti il suo progetto di ricerca su “Reconnecting With Your Culture: Eredità locali e dialoghi interculturali tra tradizione e innovazione tecnologica al servizio della conservazione e della trasmissione del patrimonio culturale religioso al futuro” dal novembre 2024 all'ottobre 2025.
Laureato in Scienze delle Biblioteche e dell’Informazione e in Automazione delle Biblioteche e Networking, ha completato un dottorato di ricerca dal titolo “Open Source Software for Integrated Library System: Relative Appropriateness in the Indian Context” presso la Mahatma Gandhi University, India. Ha una vasta esperienza professionale e di insegnamento nel campo delle biblioteche e delle scienze dell’informazione a vario titolo.
Presso la Banaras Hindu University, dove è attualmente professore del Dipartimento di Biblioteconomia e Scienze dell’Informazione, insegna a studenti post-laurea e a dottorandi in diverse aree tematiche quali Scienza dell’Informazione e Gestione della Conoscenza, Tecnologia dell’Informazione e della Comunicazione, Metodi ed Etica della Ricerca, Scrittura Tecnica, oltre a guidare cinque studiosi di ricerca.
È anche il ricercatore principale di due progetti di ricerca sugli aspetti informatici del patrimonio culturale. Recentemente ha progettato un corso MOOC (SWAYAM) sull’automazione delle biblioteche e il networking, un’iniziativa del Ministero dell’Istruzione del Governo indiano. Attualmente è redattore, in rappresentanza dell’India, di ELIS, un archivio internazionale ad accesso aperto per documenti scientifici o tecnici su biblioteconomia, scienza e tecnologia dell'informazione e aree correlate. È anche capo redattore della rivista internazionale “Informatics Studies”. È anche segretario del CIRD Heritage Informatics Advisory Committee (HIAC), India.
Ha ricevuto prestigiosi riconoscimenti a livello nazionale come il Prof. Manorama Srinath 'Best Teacher Award 2021, il Best Young Librarian Award-2018 'ILA A.G. Motiwale Award for Young LIS Professionals - 2015' e l’UGC-Junior Research Fellowship-2008 da parte di diversi enti nazionali per le sue eccezionali prestazioni e contributi. Ha partecipato a numerose conferenze e workshop e ha svolto il ruolo di persona di riferimento per la consegna di lezioni a vari livelli di istituzioni che organizzano conferenze di livello nazionale e internazionale e programmi di sviluppo della facoltà. È autore di più di 20 articoli di riviste indicizzate Scopus, documenti di conferenze, capitoli di libri e documenti di ricerca nel campo delle biblioteche e delle scienze dell'informazione e dei beni culturali. Le sue aree di interesse comprendono l'informatica del patrimonio, i sistemi informativi digitali, il patrimonio culturale, il software open source, l'automazione delle biblioteche, la gestione delle risorse elettroniche, la scrittura accademica e la scientometria.

The Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture welcomes prof. Gireesh Kumar of Banaras Hindu University
Dr. Gireesh Kumar T. K. from Banaras Hindu University, India joined as Lead Researcher and Visiting Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, University of Pavia coordinated by Prof. Olimpia Niglio, Professor, Architectural Restoration, Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture. He has awarded the Global Experience Faculty Program (GEFP) fellowship funded by Banaras Hindu University to carry out his research project on ‘Reconnecting With Your Culture: Local legacies and intercultural dialogues between tradition and technological innovation at the service of conservation and transmission of religious cultural heritage to the future’ from November 2024 to October 2025.
A post graduate in Library and Information Science and also in Library Automation and Networking, he completed a PhD entitled “Open Source Software for Integrated Library System: Relative Appropriateness in the Indian Context” at the Mahatma Gandhi University, India. Has a vast professional and teaching experience in the field of Library and Information Science at various capacities.
At the Banaras Hindu University where he is currently an Assistant Professor of Department of Library and Information Science teaches post graduate students as well as PhD student on different subject areas such as Information Science and Knowledge Management, Information and Communication Technology, Research Methods and Ethics, Technical Writing, and also guiding five research scholars. He also acting as the Principal Investigator of two research projects on informatics aspects of cultural heritage. Recently he has designed a MOOC course (SWAYAM) on Library Automation and Networking, an initiative of Ministry of Education, Government of India. Presently he is the Editor representing India of ELIS, an international open access archive for scientific or technical documents, on Librarianship, Information Science and Technology, and related areas. He is also acting as Chief Editor for the International Journal ‘Informatics Studies’. He is also acting as the Secretary of CIRD Heritage Informatics Advisory Committee (HIAC), India.
He has received prestigious national level awards of Prof. Manorama Srinath ‘Best Teacher Award 2021, Best Young Librarian Award-2018 ‘ILA A.G. Motiwale Award for Young LIS Professionals – 2015’ and UGC-Junior Research Fellowship-2008 by the different national bodies for his outstanding performances and contributions. He has participated in several conferences and workshop and acted as Resource Person for delivery lectures at various levels of institutions organizing national and international level conferences and faculty development programs. He is the author of more than 20 Scopus indexed journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, research papers in the field of Library and Information Science as well as Cultural Heritage. His areas of interest include Heritage Informatics, Digital Information Systems, Cultural Heritage, Open Source Software, Library Automation, Electronic Resource Management, Academic Writing and Scientometrics.
