The University of Pavia in Brussels for the Final Conference and Transnational Partner Meeting of the European Project DIEM

On 29 and 30 September 2026, Brussels hosted the closing events of the European project "Diversity and Inclusion in Erasmus+ iMplementation (DIEM)". Launched two and a half years ago, the initiative was born with the ambition of making the internationalisation of higher education increasingly accessible and inclusive. Its main objective is to break down the barriers that prevent students with fewer opportunities from participating in mobility experiences, providing tools and recommendations in line with the horizontal priorities of the Erasmus+ 2021-2027 programme.

The project is coordinated by Erasmus Student Network International (ESN), with the participation of a European academic and institutional consortium comprising the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA), the European University Foundation (EUF), Humboldt University of Berlin, the University of Latvia, Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the University of Pavia, represented by Chantal Riccardi and Marco Oliva from the International Mobility Office.

DIALOGUE AND COLLABORATION

On Monday 29 September, the VUB U-Residence in Brussels hosted the final conference "Inclusion and Diversity in Erasmus+", attended by approximately 100–120 stakeholders, including university representatives, students, National Agencies, policy makers and civil society organisations.
The two days offered moments of discussion and interactive workshops on key topics: the experiences and needs of students in mobility, barriers to access, and institutional best practices for greater inclusion. Room was also given to the Inclusion Café & Good Practice Exhibition, the co-creation of operational recommendations for the next Erasmus+ programming cycle, and a Policy Dialogue with representatives of the European Commission (DG EAC) and National Agencies, aimed at translating the project's findings into future strategic decisions.

RESULTS, RECOMMENDATIONS AND PROSPECTS

30 September was dedicated to the concluding Transnational Partner Meeting (TPM). At the ESN International headquarters, the consortium partners gathered to analyse the outcomes of the final conference, refine the Policy Recommendations to be disseminated at European level, and plan the final phases of the project concerning the sustainability of results, reporting and the formal closure of activities.
