Hackathon di nf-core: partecipa al local hub presso l’Università di Pavia

(English below) L’Hackathon di nf-core si avvicina: l’evento è gratuito e può essere seguito sia online che in presenza.

Nextflow è un software per la gestione di workflow altamente popolare, progettato per garantire workflow scientifici scalabili e riproducibili. nf-core è una comunità che sviluppa e mantiene pipeline di analisi curate secondo le migliori pratiche, coprendo un’ampia gamma di domini bioinformatici, tra cui genomica, metagenomica, trascrittomica, proteomica e metabolomica, ma anche simulazioni e intelligenza artificiale.

L’hackathon si terrà online dal 24 al 26 marzo 2025. Si tratta di un evento annuale in cui la comunità nf-core si riunisce online per tre giorni di hacking su tutto ciò che riguarda nf-core. Un minimo di esperienza con Nextflow e nf-core è consigliabile, ma ci sono molte attività adatte anche ai nuovi membri della comunità che vogliono iniziare a contribuire in un ambiente collaborativo e di supporto.

Per supportare ulteriormente l’evento online, sarà attivato un local hub presso l’Università di Pavia, grazie alla collaborazione tra il Dipartimento di Biologia e Biotecnologie e il Dipartimento di Matematica. I local hubs sono luoghi in cui i membri della comunità possono incontrarsi di persona e seguire insieme l’evento online.

È un’esperienza coinvolgente, un’opportunità per entrare in contatto con molte persone con interessi simili e, nel caso in cui non si voglia contribuire con il codice, c’è sempre bisogno di aiuto per migliorare documentazione, tutorial e il sito web.

The nf-core Hackathon is approaching: the event is free and can be attended both online and on-site. 

Nextflow is a highly popular workflow system that emphasises scalable and reproducible scientific workflows. nf-core is a community that builds and maintains best-practices curated analysis pipelines, spanning a wide range of bioinformatics domains that include genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, but also simulations and artificial intelligence.

The hackathon is being held online from the 24th to the 26th of March. It is an annual event where the nf-core community gather online for 3 days of hacking all things nf-core. Some experience with Nextflow and nf-core is desirable but there are lots of tasks for new community members who want to start contributing in a supportive environment.

To support the online for the hackathon further, a ‘local hub’ for the event will be hosted at the University of Pavia thanks to the collaboration between the Department of Biology and Biotechnology and the Department of Mathematics. Local-hubs are sites where community members can gather in-person and attend the online event together.

It is a fun experience, a chance to be in touch with lots of like-minded people and - should one not feel like contributing code - there’s always help wanted for improving documents, tutorials, and the website.
