University of Pavia Confirms Its Position among Italy's Top Universities in the 2026/2027 Censis Ranking
The University of Pavia has once again secured its place among Italy's leading universities, ranking second among the country's large public universities in the 2026/2027 Censis University Ranking. Published annually by Censis, Italy's leading socio-economic research institute, the ranking is designed to help prospective students make informed choices about their university education. It evaluates Italian universities based on a range of indicators, including the quality of facilities and student services, internationalisation, communication, and the employability of graduates.
Italian public universities are grouped into five categories according to their size: Small (up to 10,000 students), Medium (10,000–20,000), Large (20,000–40,000), Mega (over 40,000), and Polytechnic universities.
With around 30,000 enrolled students, the University of Pavia belongs to the Large Universities category and retains second place with an overall score of 90.2, unchanged from last year. It is also the highest-ranked comprehensive public university in Lombardy and Northern Italy.
The University of Pavia ranks first in Italy among large universities for internationalisation and performs exceptionally well in the areas of student services, facilities, and communication. Alongside the institutional ranking, Censis also evaluates academic disciplines across bachelor's, single-cycle master's, and two-year master's degree programmes, considering factors such as student progression and international engagement.

The Faculty of Medicine and Surgery ranks second in Italy, while among single-cycle master's degree programmes, the University is on the national podium in the field of Architecture and Building Engineering.
For two-year master's degree programmes, the University ranks among Italy's top three in Agricultural and Forestry Sciences - a first for the University - Architecture and Civil Engineering, Economics, and the Humanities and Psychology disciplines. Among bachelor's degree programmes, the University of Pavia ranks first in Italy in Computer Science and ICT Technologies. It also features among the top ten nationwide in Medicine, Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Political and Social Sciences and Communication, and Psychology and Cognitive Sciences.
