EC2U Masters and Virtual Institutes: their implementation and future development within the Connect Centre
(English below) Nelle giornate del 26 e 27 settembre 2023, presso il KiroLab nel palazzo San Felice dell’Università di Pavia, si terrà il seminario "EC2U Masters and Virtual Institutes: their implementation and future development within the Connect Centre".
All'evento parteciperanno docenti e staff delle università appartenenti all’alleanza europea EC2U, che coinvolge sette atenei europei, tra cui anche l’Università di Pavia, con l’obiettivo di creare un campus paneuropeo.
L’obiettivo del seminario sarà quello di intavolare una discussione sulla creazione, l’implementazione e le buone pratiche relative ai Virtual Institutes e ai Master congiunti EC2U.
L’Alleanza EC2U prevede, infatti, tra le proprie attività, gli Istituti Virtuali (VIs) ovvero “spazi congiunti senza muri fisici” che ospitano team interdisciplinari e internazionali di studenti, insegnanti, ricercatori e innovatori provenienti dalle università dell’Alleanza.
L’obiettivo dei Virtual Institutes è quello di promuovere la rapida integrazione dei risultati della ricerca e dell'innovazione della didattica attraverso nuovi programmi di studio e una varietà di corsi di formazione a breve termine, tra cui tirocini, summer e winter school, e workshop. Al momento sono stati istituiti 3 VIs che afferiscono a tre degli obiettivi UN SDGs:
1. Virtual Institute for Good Health And Well-Being (GLADE) - #SDG3: Salute e benessere;
2. Virtual Institute for Quality Education (VIQE) #SDG4: Istruzione di qualità;
3. Virtual Institute for Sustainable Cities And Communities (VISCC) #SDG11: Città e Comunità Sostenibili.
Nell'ambito dell'alleanza, sono stati inoltre creati tre Master congiunti relativi agli obiettivi UN SDGs #3, #4 e #11: LIFELINE – Lifelong Well-Being and Healthy Ageing, European Languages, Cultures and Societies in Contact e Sustainable Cities and Communities. Questi tre percorsi di studio permettono agli studenti di trascorrere alcuni semestri nelle università partner al fine di ottenere un diploma congiunto emesso dalle istituzioni dell’alleanza.
Durante la prima giornata dell’evento si parlerà dunque del processo creativo che ha portato alla creazione dei Master congiunti e, in particolare, delle sfide che le università partner hanno incontrato durante la creazione di questi. Invece il secondo giorno sarà incentrato sulla digitalizzazione della ricerca e del ruolo fondamentale che hanno svolto i Virtual Institutes in questo ambito.
Il seminario, pertanto, è un’importante occasione d’incontro e di scambio per poter discutere di innovazione nella didattica al fine di creare sempre più opportunità formative di qualità per tutti gli studenti, i ricercatori, gli studenti e lo staff delle sette università dell’alleanza.

26-27 September: EC2U Seminar 'EC2U Masters and Virtual Institutes: their implementation and future development within the Connect Centre'
On 26th and 27th of September, the seminar 'EC2U Masters and Virtual Institutes: their implementation and future development within the Connect Centre' will take place at KiroLab at the San Felice building of the University of Pavia.
The event will gather professors and staff members from the European alliance EC2U, which involves seven European universities, including the university of Pavia, and whose goal is to create a pan-European campus.
The objective of the seminar will be to initiate a discussion on the creation, implementation and good practices related to the Virtual Institutes and the EC2U Joint Masters.
Among its activities, EC2U organizes the Virtual Institutes (VIs), that is, “joint spaces without physical walls” that host interdisciplinary and international teams of students, teachers, researchers, and innovators from the Alliance’s universities,
The Virtual Institutes’ goal is to promote the rapid integration of research results and teaching innovation through new curricula and a variety of short-term training courses, including internships, summer and winter schools, and workshops.
At the moment, 3 VIs have been established which relate to three of the UN SDG objectives:
1. Virtual Institute for Good Health And Well-Being (GLADE) - #SDG3: Good Health and Well-being
2. Virtual Institute for Quality Education (VIQE) - #SDG4: Quality Education;
3. Virtual Institute for Sustainable Cities And Communities (VISCC) - #SDG11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Within the Alliance, three Joint Masters have also been created relating to the UN SDGs #3, #4 and #11 objectives: LIFELINE – Lifelong Well-Being and Healthy Ageing, European Languages, Cultures and Societies in Contact and Sustainable Cities and Communities. These three degrees allow students to study and spend a few semesters at partner universities in order to obtain a joint diploma issued by the Alliance institutions.
During the first day of the event, the creative process that led to the creation of the Joint Masters will be discussed and, in particular, the challenges that the partner universities encountered during the creation of these. On the other hand, the second day will focus on the digitization of research and the fundamental role that Virtual Institutes have played in this area.
The seminar, therefore, is an important opportunity for meeting and to discuss innovation in education to create more and more quality training opportunities for all students, researchers, teachers and staff of the seven universities of the alliance.
