BANFF Center Mountain Film Festival World Tour

(English below) La tappa del BANFF Center Mountain Film Festival World Tour si svolgerà a Pavia, presso il Cinema Politeama. OSA - Office for Sustainable Actions dell’Università di Pavia è partner del Festival, che nel 2026 festeggerà il suo 50esimo anniversario.

Il BANFF Italia è un evento annuale che mette al centro della narrazione la necessità di preservare l’ambiente, incoraggiando un approccio responsabile alla fruizione degli spazi naturali e mettendo in evidenza storie di resilienza, innovazione e rispetto per la natura.

I film selezionati, che sono stati finalisti all'omonimo festival canadese di Banff, includono cortometraggi e mediometraggi che raccontano storie di avventura, esplorazione, montagna e sport estremi. Partito come un piccolo progetto nel 1976, il World Tour e i suoi film oggi “viaggiano” in oltre 45 Paesi, raggiungendo oltre 550.000 spettatori, per un totale di circa 1.200 serate, in circa 580 città.

Giunto alla 13ª edizione, il BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour Italia fa tappa nelle principali città italiane (40, partendo da Milano il 4 febbraio e terminando a Catania), dal fine gennaio ai primi di aprile, e si fermerà a Pavia il presso il Cinema Teatro Politeama il giorno 13 marzo 2025, alle ore 20:00. 

L’evento di Pavia è organizzato in collaborazione con Fondazione Fraschini, con il CAI Club Alpino Italiano – Sezione di Pavia e con l’OSA - Office for Sustainable Actions dell’Università di Pavia.

Ospite della serata sarà il Dottor Giovanni Cappa, medico specialista in medicina d’urgenza al Policlinico San Matteo di Pavia e appassionato di fisiologia degli ambienti estremi al ritorno dalla spedizione medica di 20 giorni in Argentina, più precisamente a 6.000 metri sull’Aconcagua, dove ha studiato i possibili trattamenti dell’edema polmonare d’alta quota.

Il programma dell’edizione 2025 comprende una selezione di 7 corto e mediometraggi, per circa 2 ore di proiezione, selezionati tra i finalisti all’omonimo BANFF Centre Mountain Film Festival. I film esplorano vari temi legati alla montagna, all’avventura e alla natura. Dalle cascate in kayak alle isole Svalbard alle acrobazie in volo sul Monte Bianco, passando per le “polverose” discese freeride in Giappone e in Canada, fino alle storiche Dolomiti in MTB.

Gli spettatori verranno trasportati in un viaggio emozionante attraverso storie che raccontano esperienze di vita, connessioni autentiche con le culture montane e la bellezza di ambienti naturali straordinari.

The BANFF Center Mountain Film Festival World Tour will take place in Pavia, at the Politeama Cinema. OSA - Office for Sustainable Actions of the University of Pavia is a partner of the Festival, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026.

BANFF Italia is an annual event that focuses on the need to preserve the environment, encouraging a responsible approach to the enjoyment of natural spaces and highlighting stories of resilience, innovation, and respect for nature.

The selected moovies, which were finalists at the eponymous Canadian festival in Banff, include short and medium-length films that tell stories of adventure, exploration, mountains, and extreme sports. Starting as a small project in 1976, the World Tour and its films now "travel" to over 45 countries, reaching more than 550,000 viewers, for a total of approximately 1,200 screenings in around 580 cities.

Now in its 13th edition, the BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour Italy will make stops in major Italian cities (40 in total, starting from Milan on February 4 and ending in Catania) from late January to early April. It will stop in Pavia at the Cinema Teatro Politeama on March 13 at 8:00 PM.

The event in Pavia is organized in collaboration with the Fraschini Foundation, the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) – Pavia Section, and the OSA - Office for Sustainable Actions of the University of Pavia.

The guest of the evening will be Dr. Giovanni Cappa, a specialist in emergency medicine at the San Matteo Polyclinic in Pavia and an enthusiast of extreme environment physiology, returning from a 20-day medical expedition in Argentina, specifically at 6,000 meters on Aconcagua, where he studied possible treatments for high-altitude pulmonary edema.

The program for the 2025 edition includes a selection of 7 short and medium-length films, totaling about 2 hours of screenings, chosen from the finalists of the BANFF Centre Mountain Film Festival. The films explore various themes related to the mountains, adventure, and nature. From kayaking in waterfalls in the Svalbard Islands to aerial acrobatics over Mont Blanc, as well as “dusty” freeride descents in Japan and Canada, to historic mountain biking in the Dolomites.

Audiences will be taken on an exciting journey through stories that depict life experiences, authentic connections with mountain cultures, and the beauty of extraordinary natural environments.
